Newswise — Babson Executive Education - a top-ranked provider of executive education programs - has developed a new program, Managing in the Knowledge Age, to help managers and professionals leverage their most critical resource - knowledge - in work, in business practices, and in products and services.

"Success in today's highly competitive business world is really about 'mind over matter,' says Tom Davenport, President's Distinguished Professor of Information Technology & Management, Babson College, who will co-direct this new open enrollment program on April 9-13, 2006, in the award-winning Babson Executive Conference Center in Wellesley, MA.

Davenport is a recognized authority on knowledge management, knowledge worker productivity, and organizational learning. He has authored or coauthored more than a hundred articles and ten books, including pioneering books on knowledge management -- Working Knowledge, The Attention Economy, and the highly-acclaimed Thinking for a Living: How to Get Better Performance and Results from Knowledge Workers.

According to Davenport, "Whether a business sells software, sneakers, or services, the trend is the same: physical assets - once the only source of competitive wealth and power - have given way to intangible and intellectual assets in driving competitive success."

Managing in the Knowledge Age offers access to the leading thinkers on the subject of knowledge and organizational learning as well as interaction with those innovators who have had success in using knowledge and learning to make their organizations more efficient and effective.

Through a blend of case studies, faculty presentations, practitioner-led sessions, executive coaching, and group discussion, participants will:

Gain a better understanding of the global knowledge economy; Develop or refine a knowledge strategy; Leverage social networks in their organizations; Define the processes necessary for successful execution of knowledge-intensive projects; Improve knowledge worker productivity; Measure the relative cost of knowledge transactions; Understand and employ critical knowledge and learning activities; Define roles and responsibilities; Learn how to develop and foster communities of practice.

A distinctive component of Managing in the Knowledge Age is the strategic knowledge project, or "live case study" - the epitome of action-based learning. Participants will define a knowledge management project that is either underway or in discussion at their organizations. The project will be revisited throughout the program and participants will have the opportunity to discuss it with faculty through periodic coaching sessions.
