Babson MBAs Win Lotus Marketing Competition

Wellesley, MassÖA team of MBA students from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College beat the competition from Boston College, Boston University, MIT, Northeastern University, and Suffolk University to win first place in the Lotus Bean Town MBA Marketing Competition sponsored by Lotus SmartsSuite Marketing Group, The Lotus Development Corporation, Cambridge, Mass.

The MBA teams of four students each were challenged to brainstorm and deliver innovative marketing ideas for Lotus SmartSuite, an office software product. On Tuesday April 22, each team presented their recommendations in an hour-long competitive format and fielded questions from a Lotus panel of judges. "We were impressed with Babson's integrated perspective," said Pam Sullivan, Lotus product marketing manager.

The Babson team won individual gift certificates, and a $1,000 prize and crystal trophy for the College. Team members, who have academic concentrations in technology, marketing, entrepreneurship, and finance included: Candace Brathwaite (Trinidad), Manuel Guzman (Venezuela), Mark Johnson (Austin, Texas), and Wayne Kao (San Diego, California).

Babson College was founded in 1919 by entrepreneur and financier Roger W. Babson. It grants BS and MBA degrees through its undergraduate program and the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business, and offers programs to experienced managers worldwide through the Babson School of Executive Education. Its degree programs are accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
