Newswise — Babson College continues its work with the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies in the U.K. to deliver the U.S. portion of the New Entrepreneur Scholarships, a program designed to help budding entrepreneurs from disadvantaged areas start their own businesses.

From Oct. 8-21, 2006, 20 students from the NES program selected for the New Entrepreneur Transatlantic Scholarship (NETS UK) are sharpening their entrepreneurial business skills during an intensive two-week long program at Babson's W. F. Glavin Center for Global Management, where they are networking with American entrepreneurs.

Some of the British Entrepreneurs who will learn entrepreneurship at Babson:

Steven Brunton—Relivio Productions

Steven Brunton is a filmmaker based in the small fishing town of Bridlington in East Yorkshire. He aspires to write, produce and direct feature films, regionally, for international distribution.

Natasha Bryan—Tick Tock mobile crèche

From the early age of 5, Natasha played caregiver to young children, and it was all she seemed to be interested in"¦now at 29, she has studied childcare for more than 10 years and has been running a childcare business for more than 3. Tick Tock has a client base of 38 companies and a staff team of 9 members.

Sheryden Clegg—Diamond Beauty Bar

The Diamond Beauty Bar offers a range of spa treatments and Sheryden is hoping to open a second salon in Huddersfield's Indoor Market. She is from Rastrick and the mother of three children who has battled back from series of personal blows to open the Diamond Beauty Bar in Halifax Indoor Market.

Lorraine Corrance—One-to-One Private Care

The idea for the business came about when her mother, ill with cancer, wished to die at home with her family. Lorraine, a professionally trained nurse, decided to obtain all the information and guidance necessary to become an independent private care provider. Lorraine's next priority is to purchase a wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

Daveid Darbyshire—Northern Optimists With Talent (NOWT)

Daveid Darbyshire is a self-publishing digital artist, producing limited edition prints of his artwork. He produces art for other northern optimists with talent—bands, singers, writers, poets, athletes, actors, and performers. It is his intention to grow the business into a network of northern talent working together to make a brighter future.

Rachel Gregory—dogbog

Dogbog is an internet-based clothing company using fair-trade organic cotton and is run as a partnership. Rachel's partner Mark creates the unique designs and has also designed and built the website www.dogbog.com. Rachel hopes that dogbog will grow and grow.

Alex Fitzpatrick—The Alcove Company

Alex Fitzpatrick has launched his own furniture making company, The Alcove Company in Liverpool. The business makes custom made-to-measure alcove cabinets and built-in furniture. Alex is a member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen and plans to launch a nationwide franchise business.

Stuart Hayward—Trouble Shooter Sales

After more than 25 years of selling to the construction industry, Stuart moved into turning around the company's sales, increasing profits, and making branches leaner and more cost-effective. Trouble Shooter Sales operates in Yorkshire across many different product ranges from plant hire to builders' supply, cable support to laminate flooring and grounds maintenance to scaffolding.

Erin Hensley—Erin Originals

Erin Hensley is a native Kansan transplanted to England and lives with her husband in Bristol. She struck gold when she sewed tape measures together to make a coin purse. When not doing strange things with tape measures for her business, she eats and writes about food, attends gigs and does her best to keep in touch with her huge and far-away family. www.erinoriginals.com.

Neil Ashley Kempton—i2C Photography

Ashley, as he prefers to be called, is a digital photographer and started i2C in 2004. His business is currently split into Corporate/Wedding/Social sectors and freelance work for Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, local newspapers, local council and an international news agency. "I aspire to be a successful photographer and entrepreneur with expansion of my business throughout the UK and Worldwide.

Sharon Lee—Cyonix

Born in Liverpool, Sharon Lee moved to Nottingham in 1998 with a small family and no professional qualifications. She identified the IT industry as her target and in 2005, Sharon set up Cyonix, a small web agency providing Internet/Web services to a variety of clients. She is forming a network of local consultants and web agencies to accommodate the expansion, and eventually will sub brand to add value to the company.

Victoria Mawhinney—Cameron Addison

Cameron Addison offers high quality fashion garments for the discerning woman. Victoria Mawhinney---the designer and brand owner—begins the design process at her knitting machine and experiments with draping and joining panels in such a way that the organic garment emerges. The garments are manufactured exclusively in the UK, and currently sold in independent outlets and through the website www.cameron-addison.co.uk.

Keith Murphy—VAAS the Florist Ltd

Keith Murphy was born in Prescott, Lancashire. After graduating from university at Nottingham, he taught from 1980 until 2001 when he left his position as head teacher. He thoroughly enjoys his new venture of running a successful floristry business.

Karen Reynolds—Kazbats Den

Kazbats Den is a retail business in Newcastle upon Tyne city centre providing unusual gift wear, fashion accessories and body jewelry to the alternative market—rock, gothic, skater, hip hop, biker, emo and punk lifestyles. Starting her own business has been a long time personal dream for Karen.

Joanne (Sissy) Rooney—Sissys Surgery

After a lifetime of interest and training in the fashion industry, Sissy Rooney went out on her own. She now has her own fashion label—Sissys Surgery—making sexy and sassy ladies wear, all her designs are exclusive and original.

David Uden—UDEN:Design

After 10 years working in the print industry, David graduated from Nottingham Trent with a first-class honors degree in Graphic Design. UDEN:Design offers a broad range of graphic design and screen-printing services from concept to finished product. The firm has begun to build a varied client base from local record companies to European businesses and international charities.

Sarah Walton—Potspassion

Before starting NES, Sarah was signing on and receiving benefits. She completed the NES in March 2002,purchased her first kiln and set up her ceramics business, Potspassion (Sarah J. Walton design) in May. "I've learned that there is never one defining day or moment, it is a journey, a lifestyle, a constant learning experience."

Justine Wilde—Wilde About Gardens

Horticulture has been Justine's hobby since childhood. After a lot of study and design, Justine took the plunge and opened her own garden design business in 2005. The service-based business offers garden design consultancy with the deliverable in plans, planting designs, soft landscaping and project management.
