Newswise — Babson College Undergraduate Dean Dennis Hanno has been named a board member of the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative Foundation (GRLI), Hanno is one of three representatives from the U.S. on this distinguished international group. The GRLI's mission is to promote understanding of what constitutes globally responsible leadership and to develop its practice throughout the world. His election took place at the October General Assembly meeting held in Colorado Springs.

"As a highly respected and active contributor to the development of the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI), Professor Dennis Hanno has been elected as a member of the Board by the General Assembly," said Professor Dr. Anders Aspling, GRLI Secretary-General. "It is with great pleasure we welcome Dennis in his new role, and we look forward to a productive and pleasant collaboration for the best of GRLI and the development of a globally responsible management education."

Hanno is an award-winning teacher who has significant experience in developing innovative curriculum and in the assessment of student learning. He has presented at numerous forums on these topics, including meetings of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the European Foundation for Management Development, and the Assessment Institute. He leads the Babson College project on Core Commitments, a national consortium of schools chosen by the Association of American Colleges and Universities to lead the national dialogue on developing social and personal responsibility in students.

His curriculum innovations include leading the development of several unique global opportunities for students, including a program in Ghana, West Africa. In this program, more than 200 students, faculty and staff have traveled to Ghana since 2000 to promote the development of entrepreneurial activity in remote regions of the country. His contributions to development efforts in Ghana have been recognized both in that country and in the United States. He recently presented at the first United Nations Global Forum on the Principles for Responsible Management Education.

Newly-elected GRLI Foundation board chair Pierre Tapie, who is Dean and President of ESSEC Business School, (France and Singapore), thanked new members at the General Assembly saying they represent "the best equilibrium between continents, skills sets, businesses, business schools and gender."

Tapie talked about the importance of the meeting, saying: "Since creating the GRLI in September 2004, we have been pioneers of a movement whose importance has never been more obvious. The turmoil of the present financial crisis is a major moment signaling the need to explore new avenues; the GRLI can be of special relevance to our times and in shaping the future of developing globally responsible leadership."

The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI)

The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative was co-founded and is supported by the United Nations Global Compact and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). The GRLI's missionis to act as a catalyst to develop a next generation of globally responsible leaders. In doing so it challenges the issues of the company for the 21st Century, the mission of business schools/learning institutionsand the process for cultural change in organisations. The pioneering group consists of 60 business schools/learning institutions and companies representing five continents, over 300,000 students & 1.000,000 employees.

GRLI delivers results on three levels:

1. Wide impact; through its advocacy, collective communication, and engagement and shared learning with other organisations globally and locally

2. Value added to its partners; through concrete initiatives and projects for and within the partner organisations, with best practices being benchmarked

3. Personal growth for the representatives of the partner organization; through a unique global community of action and learning producing thought leadership, acting as a laboratory for innovation, delivering writings and publications both in research and education related to Globally Responsible Leadership and Corporate Global Responsibility

GRLI is a foundation of public interest based in Belgium with the purpose of developing a new generation of globally responsible leaders through the development and support of worldwide projects and initiatives.
