Newswise — Eric Marcotte, MD, MS, FACS, a gastrointestinal surgeon who specializes in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric procedures, has joined Loyola University Health System.

A member of the medical team at Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care, Dr. Marcotte performs gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric band and revisional surgical procedures.

Dr. Marcotte is trained in robotic surgery and also specializes in treatment for gallstones, inguinal hernias, incisional hernias, paraesophageal and hiatal hernais, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and achalasia.

Dr. Marcotte received his medical degree from the Universite de Sherbrooke in Canada where he also completed his residency in general surgery. He earned his diplôme d'études collégiales in natural sciences at CEGEP de Trois-Rivieres in Canada. He also received a master’s degree in biomedical sciences (clinical research) at the Universite de Montreal.

Dr. Marcotte joins Loyola from the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic & bariatric surgery.

Dr. Marcotte speaks English, French and Spanish.

Professional medical organizations that Dr. Marcotte belongs to include the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.

The Loyola Center for Metabolic Surgery & Bariatric Care is designated as a Level 1 facility under the Bariatric Surgery Center Network (BSCN) Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). To achieve this accreditation, Loyola had to meet a number of rigorous institutional performance measures. Since the center’s opening in 2012, a multidisciplinary team of bariatric-certified professionals including surgeons, psychologists, dietitians, exercise physiologists and physicians has cared for hundreds of obese men, women and children.

Surgical procedures offered by Loyola include laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
