Fareed Zakaria, host of the renowned CNN program “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” will deliver the 2024 Susan Shirk Lecture on U.S.-China Relations at 5 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 7, on the UC San Diego campus. The event is free and open to the public and part of the UC San Diego China Forum, organized by the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy’s 21st Century China Center.

Amazon’s highly anticipated 48-hour Prime Day kicks off Tuesday, July 16. Last year, Amazon reported its biggest Prime Day ever, with shoppers purchasing more than 375 million items. Nationwide study published in Risk Analysis, compares the concentration of hazards and risks for the richest and poorest counties and municipalities in all 50 states (200 locations). Wealthier communities face higher economic consequences from natural hazard events compared to the poorest, mostly rural communities. The lowest-income municipalities have fewer impact from natural hazards, but at least 50% higher suicide and homicide rates, and firearm fatalities.
