Newswise — In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Stuart Goldman, a psychiatrist at Children's Hospital Boston, is available to discuss possible psychological trauma to children involved in the disaster, or were exposed to disturbing media images. Goldman consults with parent groups, parent/teacher organizations, teachers and physician groups on a wide range of childhood psychiatric issues, including how to talk with children about tragedy, terrorism and war. Following Sept. 11, his presentations focused on how to help patients and families cope with the tragedy. During the early phases of the Iraqi war, he focused on providing children with reassurance, open discussions and age-appropriate responses to questions. Goldman, director of the Depressive Disorder Clinic at Children's Hospital Boston, is also a parent of school-age children.
