WASHINGTON, June 29 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following statement was released today by Daniel Wolfson, president and CEO of Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP), regarding President Clinton's Prescription Drug Proposal for Medicare Beneficiaries:

"We applaud President Clinton's proposal to solve a problem vital to the nation's seniors -- access to affordable prescription drugs.

"ACHP health plans believe that it is crucial that any proposed plan work for all stakeholders in this debate -- patients, physicians, employers and health plans.

"The toughest challenge for policy makers is the affordability question. More details are needed to explain how this proposal will address the overall affordability of, and the inflationary trends in, the prescription drug market.

"We look forward to working with Members of Congress, the Administration, and other interested parties in securing the best possible solution for America's seniors."

Daniel Wolfson is the president and CEO of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP), a national association of 23 independent and locally-managed health plans, currently serving over 7 million members, including thousands of Medicare beneficiaries.
