Sharon Poczter, a managerial economics expert and assistant professor at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University, comments on stagnant job numbers and the need to address fundamental issues behind unemployment.

She says:

“Now that the fiscal cliff and the election are behind us, policymakers should refocus their attention on the fundamental issues behind the unemployment situation, as fairly unchanged unemployment numbers released this morning continue to suggest a jobless and insufficient recovery.

“With indicators such as unemployment ranging from 7.8 to 14.4 percent, unemployment duration remaining at 30-year highs, and unemployment applications remaining fairly unchanged, it is evident that the unemployment problem is not a temporary problem, and even more significantly, potentially the result of a paradigm shift in the changing U.S. and global economy that needs to be seriously addressed.”
