Newswise — Chicago (Oct. 11, 2013): The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) membership elected Dr. Kristen L. Mauk, PhD DNP RN CRRN GCNS-BC GNP-BC FAAN, to serve as president of the association for the 2013-2014 year. Mauk took office at the recent 39th Annual ARN Educational Conference, held October 2-5 in Charlotte, NC. Mauk has been an active member for 25 years, having served on the Board of Directors and various committees since 2001.
Dr. Mauk works as a professor of nursing at Valparaiso University, as a healthcare consultant and is President of Senior Care Central in Valparaiso, IN. She has received numerous professional honors, including the ARN Research Poster Award in 2010, the ARN Educator Role Award in 2007 and the ARN Distinguished Service Award in 2005. Dr. Mauk is a prolific author and editor in the field of rehabilitation and gerontological nursing. Her most recent publications include Rehabilitation Nursing: A Contemporary Approach to Practice and Gerontological Nursing: Competencies for Care, Third Edition.
Since 1990, Dr. Mauk has presented at many ARN Educational Conferences and has been very involved from the beginning of her membership, serving on the CEPU Advisory, Conference Planning and Practical Rehabilitation Course Committees.
Dr. Mauk earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, along with a Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing from Purdue University Calument and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Valparaiso University.
Dr. Mauk’s vision for her work as president is to support the association by increasing membership, raising ARN’s national visibility and promoting rehabilitation nursing competencies at the international level through collaboration with other key organizations. Mauk states, “I am honored to have been a part of such a remarkable organization for many years, and am humbled to serve this year as President of ARN. I encourage all rehabilitation nurses to join us in promoting our mission and achieving these objectives that will help to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities and those with chronic illness.”
