Newswise — Babson College has named entrepreneurship scholar Patricia G. Greene Provost. The appointment will take place on July 1, 2006.

Greene currently serves as Dean of the Undergraduate School at Babson, a position she has held since July 2003.

"She brings a unique blend of management experience and academic expertise to the position. She is a terrific collaborator who has shown tremendous leadership skills while serving as Dean of our Undergraduate School."

"From her first days on campus, she has been a high energy and 'can-do' leader, contributing on many fronts," he added. "She has demonstrated her special qualities as a terrific manager, a dedicated scholar, a great communicator, and a proven member of my leadership team."

As Undergraduate Dean at Babson, Greene's accomplishments include maintaining the Babson's leadership role in entrepreneurial management education, working to revise the management core curriculum, improving student services, championing the integration of ethics throughout the curriculum, and improving collaborative relations with both Olin College of Engineering and Wellesley College.

Much of Greene's research looks at the interaction between characteristics of the entrepreneur and the business creation process. She is particularly interested in that analysis in the context of minority and women-owned businesses.

Greene is a founding member of the Diana Project, a research group focusing on women and the venture capital industry. She is coauthor of the Diana Project book, Clearing the Hurdles: Women Building High-Growth Businesses.

Her work has been published in journals including Journal of Business Venturing, Venture Capital, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal Business Research, Small Business Economics, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Small Business Management and The National Journal of Sociology.

Before coming to Babson, Greene was at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where she held the Ewing Marion Kauffman/Missouri Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership.

While at Missouri, Greene led several key entrepreneurship initiatives including the Entrepreneurial Growth Resource Center (EGRC), the iStrategy Studio, the Business and Information Development Group (BRIDG), the University's Students in Free Enterprise Program (SIFE), the Kauffman Entrepreneurship Internship Program (KEIP), the Entrepreneurial Effect, the Network for Entrepreneurship Educators and Researchers (NEER), and the annual Business Plan Competition.

Prior to joining Missouri, Greene was at Rutgers University, where she held the New Jersey Chair of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. She was a founding member of the Rutgers Center for Entrepreneurial Management and coordinator of the entrepreneurship curriculum.

Greene holds the B.S. from Pennsylvania State University; the MBA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin. She is a native of Hamburg, PA.
