Executive Education Update January 1998

This monthly electronic broadcast is designed to keep you up-to-date on happenings at the Babson School of Executive Education, a provider of management development programs to clients around the world. Last month the School delivered custom executive programs to Atlantic Data Services, Pitney Bowes, Schwan's Sales Enterprises and Siemens Nixdorf.

Working Together Productively: Atlantic Data Enhances Its Strengths Last month's ADS/Babson Professional Leadership Program was the culmination of two prior training sessions for senior executives at the fast-growing Atlantic Data Services company. Program goals centered on building the basis and skills to work through issues and problems that impede productivity, trust, and a team orientation. Led by Professor Joe Weintraub, a group of seventeen engagement managers and senior services managers participated in sessions on vision, feedback systems, group problem-solving, coaching, mentoring, and leadership.

Pitney Bowes Executives Top the Success Meter The final session of Pitney Bowes' four module Executive Development Program, delivered in partnership with Babson faculty, was held at the Center for Executive Education in December. The program, led by Professor Bill Lawler, represents the highest level of training offered by the company. Fifteen executives have participated in this custom program since April 1997. The next offering, for another group of selected Pitney Bowes executives, will begin this Spring.

Babson Delivers for Schwan's Sales Enterprises Executives from Schwan's Sales Enterprises attended two preview sessions for a custom executive-level, general management program developed by Babson faculty. Schwan's makes and delivers pizza and other frozen foods to schools, hospitals, and private homes via the company's fleet of 2,500 trucks. Preview session highlights included an on-line home shopping delivery service demonstration given by a Babson MBA alum and the company's CEO. The program, co-directed by Professors Marty Anderson and Joe Weintraub, is intended for 100 of Schwan's high potential managers. The Minnesota-based Schwan's will hold four separate four and one half day programs at Babson's Center for Executive Education in 1998-99.

Siemens Nixdorf Operationalizes Plans for Success Last month in Germany, Professor Phil Dover helped 32 managers in the Open Enterprise Computing Group of Siemens Nixdorf develop marketing implementation plans that will make their business plans operational. These business plans were drafted in a previous Babson executive education program in 1997. This is an example of a sequential executive education system in which a series of programs are developed that allow the company to reach its strategic goals, starting from the big picture, followed by coaching, and ending with actual performance. This was the second run of this Siemens Nixdorf program.
