Newswise — Babson Executive Education's Research Fellow, Donald Cohen, will address the Biotechnology Industry Organization's (BIO) Human Resources Conference in New York Sept. 25-27, 2005.

Cohen's presentation, "Rising above the Crowd: How to Spot & Retain High-Performers," will use current research from Babson Executive Education to address how biotech industry managers can better support "knowledge workers" -- those who develop and apply knowledge in business organizations. "These workers are mobile and concerned that their experiences position them well for future opportunities," said Cohen. "The complexity of their work requires them to collaborate effectively with others in different physical locations, functions, and even organizations. Most importantly, their work is inherently emergent."

Cohen will tackle key questions such as, "What kinds of interventions can management provide to help better attract and retain this talent?" and "How can management develop and mentor others in the organization to become high-performers?" The outcome, said Cohen, will be "a set of successful approaches for nurturing social and human capital within organizations."
