Little League Baseball celebrates its 75th birthday this year, and two girls are expected to play in the 2014 Little League World Series, which starts today and continues through August 24 in Williamsport, PA.

The sport hasn’t always been so welcoming for girls and women, as Mount Holyoke College professor Martha Ackmann knows well. She is the author of Curveball, The remarkable story of Toni Stone, the first woman to play professional baseball in the Negro League. Toni Stone (1921–96) replaced Henry Aaron when he moved to the majors--and then proved she could compete on a men's team.

Ackmann is an experienced media commentator on the history of women in baseball, and is available for interviews at 413-538-2564.
