Newswise — High school entrepreneurs from around the world are refining their start-up skills at Babson College Summer Study Programs.

Students -- from countries including Bolivia, China, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Namibia, South Africa, Spain, and Venezuela and from across the U.S. including California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin -- are developing new ventures and creating action plans for solving world problems.

Summer Study Students are in one of two Babson classes in which they earn four Babson College credits and are taught by top-ranked faculty in a challenging campus environment.

• Students in Babson Entrepreneur Development Experience are developing and refining their ideas now that they have gone through feasibility analyses that determined which of the small businesses have growth potential. Student business proposals include designer smart phone applications, a specialty frozen yogurt shop and websites and services targeted at the college age market.

• Students in Babson Idea Generation are exploring problem solving methods and social entrepreneurship to make their mark on the world now that they have identified and explored a passion for a specific area they believe is a “BIG problem” and are in the process of developing personal and team action plans to make a difference. Students in BIG are introduced to a variety of world problems via different faculty members each week. Having studied human trafficking and education in the past three weeks, students are now learning about environmental and sustainable design and will be covering climate change and corporate involvement in these and many other issues in the coming weeks.

When not in the classroom, students are exploring Wellesley and Boston, taking in historical sites such as the Freedom Trail and Boston Summer rites such as Friday night movies at the Hatch Shell. Summer Study students have a varied Babson experience -- they have volunteered at the Cradles to Crayons charity, attended the New England Revolution vs. Manchester United game, and participated in campus discussions and lectures about legal and funding issues for small entrepreneurs.

Students have expressed their excitement about their participation in the first Summer Study for High School Students at Babson. One student in the Babson Idea Generation class shares, “This is an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.”

Babson’s Summer Study Programs for High School Students provide a living/learning laboratory for students to focus on applying and advancing their knowledge in business and entrepreneurship. In this collaborative community, students will gain the tools and experience to impact and reshape organizations, industries and the world. Each program will introduce students to Babson’s way of Entrepreneurial Thought and Action and provide resources and strategies for students to think about company and world issues through their classes, cases, speakers and scheduled activities. For more information visit: www.babson.edu/summerstudy.
