Newswise — (September 15, 2015; Toronto) – Like many Canadians, thousands of hockey players will be waking up early on Saturday, September 26 to play the game we love. Only this time, they will be using their SHER-WOOD to help conquer cancer at the 5th annual Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer.

Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is a dawn-to-dusk event taking place at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto with over 150 teams playing five games through the course of the day. To keep participants engaged & energized between games, there is great food, beverages, live music, massage therapy and interactive games. Featured attractions also include a mascot game and a team of celebrities facing off against the top fundraising individuals.

While Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is so grateful to all of its supporters, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s Chief Hockey Officer, Shawn Burt, recognized the importance of SHER-WOOD’s involvement. “Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer is an epic event for an important mission: to conquer cancer in our lifetime, and this fifth year is going to be that much more special. For many of the participants, the nostalgia of playing road hockey takes the participants back to a special time in their lives. Adding an iconic Canadian brand like SHER-WOOD to the mix only cranks up the nostalgia that much more. We are delighted to welcome SHER-WOOD as a partner.”

“We are extremely proud to partner with Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer and The Princess Margaret,” said Kent Harris, President of Sher-Wood Athletics Group. “SHER-WOOD is as Canadian as road hockey, and the SHER-WOOD brand aligns perfectly with the concept of playing hockey to defeat cancer.”

2015 is Road Hockey To Conquer Cancer’s milestone fifth year, and through the first four years, the event has raised more than $9 million for Personalized Cancer Medicine at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. To commemorate the fifth year of this outstanding event, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is confident that two world records will be achieved: largest number of participants in a one-day fundraising road hockey event as well as greatest amount of money raised by a one-day fundraising road hockey event.
