Newswise — December 13, 2012 – Neptune, NJ – Jersey Shore University Medical Center will be conducting free health screenings on Friday, December 14 at Manasquan United Methodist Church (MUMC) during the church’s daily meal service for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The screenings, including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body mass index, pulse and stroke risk assessment, will be offered to all, and walk-ins are welcome.
The daily meal service, initiated by the Manasquan United Methodist Church (MUMC), with generous support from local businesses and citizens, has helped feed between 75 and 350 people every day since November 4. The committed group has also prepared dinners for the National Guard troops patrolling the Manasquan beachfront. The idea to incorporate health screenings came from Jersey Shore Community Advisory Committee vice-chair and MUMC parishioner Steve Bumbera, who says, “Hurricane Sandy has taken a huge toll on residents in the Manasquan area, and many people have put their health on the backburner since the storm. We are delighted that Jersey Shore is providing easy-to-access basic health care screenings for those who are dealing with so much.”
