What: The 6th Annual Women’s Philanthropic Fund (WPF) Spring Luncheon will feature keynote speaker Carol Ash, MD, Sleep Specialist, Meridian Health. Dr. Ash’s lecture titled Sleep: Getting to the Heart of the Matter will focus on how sleep and cardiac care go hand in hand. During the luncheon guests will have the opportunity to receive free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings and speak to experts in cardiac care, diet and nutrition, fitness and lifestyle, and much more.

Why: The mission of the WPF is to educate women in Monmouth and Ocean counties about the importance of heart health and to raise funds for cardiac programs, services and technology at Meridian Health, which includes Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, Southern Ocean Medical Center and Bayshore Community Hospital.

This year WPF is funding mobile vascular screening equipment, Angioscreen, to help Meridian’s community outreach efforts. Since its inception in 2007, more than $350,000 has been raised for cardiac programs throughout Meridian Health. Each year the Women’s Philanthropic Fund board will select and focus on one cardiac program, service, or technology at Meridian Health to support. Contributions raised throughout the year will fund that program and contributions and membership fees are 100% tax-deductible.

About Carol Ash Dr. Ash is a board-certified general internist, fellowship-trained pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine specialist with more than 15 years’ experience in clinical medicine. She has been interviewed on both television and radio, including the Today Show, Good Morning America, MSNBC, CBS Early Show, WNBC-TV’s News 4 You, ABC’s Nightline and the Dr. Oz Show. Dr. Ash has also been featured as an expert in articles in The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and in national magazines Women’s Day, Shape, Parenting, Parents, Prevention, Glamour, Reader’s Digest, Huffington Post, and Self. She is currently on the Advisory Board for Ladies’ Home Journal.
