Newswise — MAYWOOD, Ill. – For the fourth time in a row, Loyola University Medical Center has received an “A” hospital safety score from the Leapfrog Group, a respected, independent industry watchdog.
The Hospital Safety Score rates how well a hospital creates and implements systems to protect patients from preventable harm.
Leapfrog assigns safety scores twice a year. Loyola also received an A score in April, 2014, and twice in 2013.
Leapfrog assigns Hospital Safety Scores to more than 2,500 hospitals, and the score is becoming a gold standard measure of patient safety.
The Hospital Safety Score uses national performance measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey and Health Information Technology Supplement.
Taken together, those performance measures produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm. The Hospital Safety Score includes 28 measures, and its methodology has been peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety.
The Hospital Safety Score was created and is administered by the Leapfrog Group, a national leader and advocate in hospital transparency.
