Chen’s study was one of only six abstracts accepted for oral presentation in a special symposium by and for young investigators at the society’s 37th Annual Conference on Shock in Charlotte, N.C.
Chen also received the prestigious Mohammed Sayeed travel award to attend the meeting. The award is named after the late Mohammed Sayeed, PhD, a founding member and past president of the Shock Society and a professor in Loyola’s Burn & Shock Trauma Research Institute.
Chen presented a study titled, “Alcohol Potentiates Post Burn Intestinal Ischemia Through Shifts in Fluid Compartments.” Senior author is Elizabeth J. Kovacs, PhD, director of research in Loyola’s Burn & Shock Trauma Research Institute.
