Newswise — Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) today announced that LWW will become the new publisher of the AAMC's esteemed journal, Academic Medicine, effective January 2004.

"This partnership with LWW offers new opportunities for us to expand our journal's readership and increase understanding of the issues and challenges confronting the nation's medical schools and teaching hospitals," said Lisa Dittrich, Managing Editor of Academic Medicine.

"Academic Medicine is a wonderful addition to the LWW publishing program," said Carole Pippin, Vice President, Society Publishing and LWW Medical/Professional Production & Manufacturing, Wolters Kluwer Medical Research. "Combined with an expanded online presence through Ovid Technologies, another division of Wolters Kluwer Health, we aim to strengthen Academic Medicine's position as a vital print and online resource for the medical education community."

Individual and AAMC-member subscribers will also continue to access the online journal via HighWire Press at http://www.academicmedicine.org.

In addition, Academic Medicine will now be available on Journals@Ovid, an online database of more than 1,000 premier medical and health sciences journals from 60 of the world's leading societies and publishers, offered exclusively by Ovid. Journals@Ovid is a powerful database offering 100% searchable full text, including every word, graphic, and caption; seamless integration with other Ovid bibliographic databases; and the ability to browse content by journal and by subject.

Academic Medicine, the leading peer-reviewed monthly journal on medical education, serves as an international forum for the exchange of ideas and information about policy, issues, and research concerning academic medicine. It began in 1926 as a bulletin and in 1950 became the Journal of Medical Education. In 1989 it was re-named Academic Medicine, where the scope broadened to include topics relevant to those in leadership positions. Currently, the journal publishes policy papers, analysis, research reports, and other articles covering the full range of issues facing medical schools, teaching hospitals, academic societies, and health policy agencies.

LWW also publishes Academic Physician & Scientist, a collaborative publication between LWW and the AAMC. This publication is distributed free of charge to more than 120,000 individuals, including every academic physician and scientist, senior resident, fellow, and residency program director at the 126 medical schools and their affiliated teaching hospitals, as well as 3,000 senior-level administrators.
