Newswise — New Brunswick, NJ – The Rutgers School of Public Health is excited to announce that Marybec Griffin, PhD, MPH, MA, will be joining the department of health behavior, society, and policy as an assistant professor in September.

Griffin’s interdisciplinary program of research broadly focuses on socio-cultural and political aspects that affect healthcare access.

Griffin received her PhD in social and behavioral health sciences from New York University, where her doctoral research examined trends related to healthcare access from the perspective of healthcare system engagement, access to care, and satisfaction with services among marginalized populations.

Griffin has extensive ‘on-the-ground’ public health experience, having worked at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for a decade in the areas of HIV/AIDS policy and program design as well as helping to evaluate the quality of sexual health services and contraceptive coverage. She is also involved with research projects at New York University that are focused on sexual assault at electronic dance music festivals and the role of condom messages in rap music.

Griffin has taught at New York University and New Jersey City University, receiving stellar student ratings.

“The School is honored to welcome Dr. Griffin,” said Perry N. Halkitis, dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health. “Dr. Griffin will contribute significantly to the teaching program of our school which is one of the three pillars delineated in the School’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan.”

“The department of health behavior, society and policy is thrilled to welcome Dr. Griffin,” said Paul Duberstein, department chair. “Dr. Griffin’s expertise and passion for pedagogy will be invaluable to our students, department, and School as we continue to grow.”

“I'm delighted to be joining the Rutgers School of Public Health,” said Griffin. “Rutgers considers health from an interdisciplinary perspective and knows that to develop innovative solutions to health challenges, we need to provide an education that considers myriad perspectives.”

Griffin joins the Rutgers School of Public Health from the New Jersey City University where she was an assistant professor and New York University where she was an adjunct professor. Dr. Griffin has previously completed a MPH at New York University and holds a MA in International Affairs from the New School.
