Newswise — MILWAUKEE _ Three powerhouse speakers – from Microsoft, Rockwell Automation and Foxconn Technology Group – headline the 2019 Milwaukee Engineering Research Conference, presented by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Feb. 28-March 1.
The conference, which brings together members of academia, industry and government, features Raghu Ramakrishnan, chief technology officer at Microsoft Data and AI (12:45 p.m. Feb. 28); Lyman Tschanz, vice president of connected enterprise consulting at Rockwell Automation (12:30 p.m. March 1); and Alan Yeung, director of U.S. strategic initiatives at Foxconn Technology Group (9 a.m. Feb. 28).
Ramakrishnan’s talk will focus on a fundamental shift in computing brought on by breakthroughs in machine learning, scale-out analytics and cost-effective cloud services. Through the lens of the Microsoft data journey,he will discuss how using artificial intelligence offers opportunities to rethink business strategies and scientific enterprises in radically different, data-driven ways.
Sessions for both days are held at the UWM Student Union, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.
In addition to spotlighting UWM’s new Connected Systems Institute, conference highlights include five panel discussions on connected engineering-related topics. Each panel consists of industry participants led by UWM faculty:
- Connected systems (Feb. 28)
- Advanced materials and manufacturing (Feb. 28)
- Transportation (Feb. 28)
- Biomedical and health (March 1)
- The water and energy nexus (March 1)
A build-out tour of the space for UWM’s Connected Systems Institute is offered on Friday afternoon.
