7th Annual Neurosurgery Softball Tournament to Benefit Childhood Brain Tumor Research

WHAT: 300 neurosurgeons from 22 of the nations’ top medical institutions (see list below) will battle it out in NYC’s Central Park on Saturday, June 5, to raise funds for Columbia University Medical Center’s Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund, which focuses on making research advancements to improve the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric brain tumors. This annual athletic event provides an opportunity for neurosurgeons to trade in the operating room for the softball field for a day, to support brain tumor research. WHY: Pediatric brain tumors are among the leading causes of cancer death in children, according to data from the National Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society.

WHEN: Saturday, June 5, 2010 (which Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has declared as, "Neurosurgery Charity Softball Tournament Day" in the City of New York, in honor of the event)

9 a.m. – Games begin3 to 7 p.m. – Final four teams face off for championship

WHERE: Central Park, North Meadow (enter b/w 97th to 102nd St. – on the east or west-side of the park)
