Newswise — Are you a competitive runner looking for your next challenge? Or are you just focused on your health and looking to keep active? If so, then join Meridian Cardiovascular Network for the 2012 Meridian Health Heart & Sole Cup, a new series of three 5k runs/walks. The series begins on Saturday, May 19 with a new course for the Ocean Medical Center 5k in Brick, followed by the Jersey Shore University Medical Center 5k in Neptune (Sunday, September 16), and the Bayshore Community Hospital 5k (Saturday, October 6).

At stake this year is $12,000 in total prize money, with $3,000 up for grabs at each of the three races. In addition, $3,000 in prize money will be awarded to the series winners of the Meridian Health Heart & Sole Cup, which will be determined after the Bayshore 5k. Each race will award prize money to the top three overall for men and women, and top three winners in five year age groups (starting with the age of 30.) Additionally, all participants will have a chance to win prizes in random raffles during the events.

Following each race, there will be free kids races and Community Day festivities that will provide fun and healthy activities for the whole family. Guests will enjoy free games, an inflatable play area, face painting and tattoos, trackless train rides, food, music and much more! Additionally, mascots from the Pawsative Action Team at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital will be making special appearances. Health information and free screenings will also be available and include blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, stroke risk assessment, and bone density.

Runners who complete all three Meridian Health Heart & Sole Cup races will receive a commemorative gift at the final race, the Bayshore Community Hospital 5k on Saturday, October 6.
