Newswise — Applications are now being accepted for mid-career professionals seeking to design and launch a new media idea in American University's unique executive Masters of Arts degree in Media Entrepreneurship (MAME).

The MAME degree is one of AU's newest programs in entrepreneurship. Other programs that focus on the integration of innovation and professional practice include an MBA with a concentration in entrepreneurship, a graduate certificate in business entrepreneurship and a master’s degree in social enterprise.

The first MAME cohort will start this fall in the 10-course, 30-credit Masters of Arts program, which is a partnership between American University’s School of Communication and its Kogod School of Business. Classes in the new MAME program will meet on alternating Saturdays and one night during the week over 20 months. Courses include entrepreneurship and innovation, communication law, media technology management, finance and marketing.

"We are delighted to again be offering academic programs on the industry's leading edge," said Amy Eisman, director of the new MAME. "This program captures one of the major trends in media and is targeted to entrepreneurs, startups and intrapreneurs alike."

This program is designed to target the next generation of innovators, managers and idea leaders who will pioneer fresh concepts for news and information.

"More and more media professionals are embracing the idea that they must make their own media in the future. This program will give them the core concepts and skills they need to do that," said Jan Schaffer, J-Lab director and Entrepreneur in Residence at AU's School of Communication, who helped design the program.
