NSF GRANTEES FEATURED AT ASCB MEETING

National Science Foundation (NSF) grantees will contribute a wide range of insights and research findings at the annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), in such areas as the biological determinants of circadian functions, the regulation of cells by proteins and the effects of wave-driven chemicals on coral reefs. The meeting will be held from December 9-13 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.

Attached are abstracts describing research projects by NSF -funded scientists speaking at ASCB symposia. NSF-funded scientists speaking at major ASCB symposia include:

-- Harry F. Noller, Jr. (University of California Santa Cruz), who will speak Sunday, December 10 on "The Mechanism of Protein Synthesis"

-- Daphne Preuss (University of Chicago), who will speak Monday, December 11 on "Chromosome Dynamics"

-- Barbara Baker (University of California Berkeley), whowill speak Tuesday, December 12 on "Pathogen Recognition and Host Defense"

-- Steve Kay (the Scripps Research Institute), who willspeak Wednesday, December 13 on "Biological Clocks"

-- Laura Kiessling (University of Wisconsin), who will speak Wednesday, December 13 on "Chemical Approaches to Biological Problems"
