Newswise — PAINWeek 2009 promises to be one of the most well-attended annual pain conferences in the country, offering over 75+ hours of CE/CME education for healthcare professionals. Global Medical Education is the accredited provider for the conference.

PAINWeek will be held from September 9-12, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa. Interested and qualified healthcare professionals may go to www.painweek.org for specific submission criteria and instructions. The national conference will feature commercially supported events such as satellite symposia, special-interest sessions, and scientific assemblies directed to the wide variety of frontline clinicians who treat pain.

The Pain and Chemical Dependency Assembly will include sessions such as The Art and Science of Urine Drug Testing; Screening, Diagnosing, and Monitoring Patients for Risk; Update on Universal Precautions and Managing Problem Patients, and The Inherited Pain Patient.

A Medical-Legal Assembly will be conducted by former US Attorney Jennifer Bolen, JD, founder and president of the Legal Side of Pain®. These sessions will include a mock trial emulating a federal government prosecution of a US physician accused of overprescribing and/or inappropriately prescribing controlled substances. The objectives of the mock trial and additional expert workshops will be strategies that all attendees can utilize in practicing appropriate pain management.

The American Society of Pain Educators (ASPE) anticipates a robust attendance to the annual Pain Educators Forum (PEF) held during PAINWeek. The PEF agenda will comprise a pain management "basics" track along with adult learning offerings to facilitate clinicians who are pursuing the Certified Pain Educators credential. The PEF is open to all PAINWeek attendees. Please visit www.paineducators.org for more information.

Rounding out the program will be discipline-specific tracks on neurology, rheumatology, pharmacology, behavioral health, and hypnosis during the 4-day meeting. The mix of plenary and breakout sessions at PAINWeek provides clinical and practice management strategies for practitioners in the primary care setting, and all clinicians and professionals who treat pain will benefit, including physicians, nursing professionals, physician assistants, dentists, pharmacists, psychologists, podiatrists, hypnotists, acupuncturists, and others.

A Call-for-Abstracts has been announced with a deadline of July 14 for online submissions.
