Symposium Presenters

Ronald Diamond, M.D.

Ronald Diamond, M.D., is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin. He also serves as medical director of the Mental Health Center of Dane County in Wisconsin and as director of the Acute Psychiatric Service at the University of Wisconsin Crisis Service. He has been involved in the community-based treatment of persons with severe and persistent mental illness for more than 20 years, with a special interest in measuring and improving quality of life for persons with schizophrenia.

Sharon G. Dott, M.D.

Sharon Gail Dott, M.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She also serves as medical director of the Crisis Resolution Unit and Intensive Treatment Programs of the Gulf Coast Center in Texas. Dr. Dott's areas of expertise include quality of life research for the mentally ill and safety and efficacy of schizophrenia treatments.

Patricia Scheifler, M.S.W.

Patricia Scheifler, M.S.W., director of the Partnership for Recovery in Birmingham, Ala., specializes in providing, developing and enhancing services for people who are recovering from serious mental illness. She lectures widely around the United States and conducts workshops for people suffering from severe mental illness and their families.

Peter J. Weiden, M.D.

Peter J. Weiden, M.D., is director of the Neurobiological Disorders Service of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York and is an associate professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University. He also is a fellow in psychiatric epidemiology at the School of Public Health at Columbia University. Dr. Weiden has been a clinical investigator for several of the atypical antipsychotics and currently is researching the impact these agents may have on medication compliance and relapse under "real world" conditions.
