RESKIN ELECTED 93RD PRESIDENT OF AMERICAN SOCIOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Barbara F. Reskin, Harvard University, was elected the 93rd President of the American Sociological Association, and Elijah Anderson, University of Pennsylvania, was elected Vice President. Reskin and Anderson will assume office in August of 2001, following a year of service as President-elect and Vice President-elect. Also, elected Secretary was Arne L. Kalleberg, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He will begin his three-year term in 2002, following a year of service as Secretary-elect.
Election to President is the highest honor ASA members can bestow on a colleague. As President, Reskin serves as Chair of the ASA Council, which governs the Association and its policies. She also chairs the Program Committee for the 2002 Annual Meeting to be held in Chicago, IL on Aug. 16-20, 2002.
In announcing the results of the election, Secretary Florence B. Bonner and Executive Officer Felice J. Levine extended heartiest congratulations to the newly elected officers and committee members. The other elected officials include the four newly elected Council Members-at-Large, the two members elected to the Committee on Publications, and the six members elected to the Committee on Nominations.
