Newswise — Together Rx(tm) LLC has appointed Roba Whiteley as its new executive director. Together Rx, the nation's most widely enrolled private prescription savings program, has over 1.4 million cardholders and has saved seniors more than $500 million. Whiteley takes the helm from Robert Perkins, who was recently appointed vice president, Public Policy at AstraZeneca.

"Together Rx welcomes a tireless leader and dedicated healthcare advocate," said Thomas McKenna, chairman of the Together Rx Board of Managers and senior vice president, Planning and Operations, Bristol-Myers Squibb. "Roba's proven track record in promoting and enhancing awareness about issues that have an impact on health will help to advance the work of Together Rx."

"As its executive director, I plan to build on the difference that Together Rx's seven member pharmaceutical companies have made in people's lives by providing meaningful prescription savings," said Whiteley.

Whiteley has dedicated her life's work to ensuring that people have access to the best in healthcare. Throughout her 25-year career, she has been a powerful advocate for the development and delivery of innovative healthcare solutions. As vice president of marketing and communications with The National Council on the Aging (NCOA), Whiteley enhanced the organization's strategic partnerships, healthcare initiatives and health-focused media campaigns. Her collaborative efforts with government agencies and other stakeholder groups increased awareness of key issues linked to aging in America.

Most recently, Whiteley served as executive director of Project Patient Care. Under her leadership, Project Patient Care conducted a study on how formulary drug substitutions affect elderly patient outcomes. Results of this research helped to inform the ongoing debate with providers and policy makers about this important issue. Whiteley has a master's degree in nutrition science from Drexel University.

Together Rx was established in 2002 by seven major pharmaceutical companies as a stop-gap measure to provide greater access to prescription medications among Medicare beneficiaries until a more permanent solution became available. Since that time, Together Rx has enrolled over 1.4 million people, and saved them more than $500 million. Together Rx is now working with its cardholders to make sure that they take advantage of the full range of benefits they are entitled to with Medicare-approved drug discount cards, and are aware of the new voluntary Medicare prescription drug benefit that comes into effect on January 1, 2006.

The founding members of Together Rx, LLC are Abbott Laboratories, AstraZeneca, Aventis, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson (through OrthoMcNeil Pharmaceutical Inc and Janssen Pharmaceutica Products L.P.) and Novartis.
