The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine will award doctor of medicine degrees to 116 women and men from 28 states and three foreign countries at the commencement exercises May 24, 2001. The class is the 106th to graduate since the Baltimore, Md., school opened in 1893. Johns Hopkins is among the most selective medical schools in the nation, with 7,058 applicants for 120 places for the freshman class this fall.

David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., United States Surgeon General, will be the School of Medicine commencement speaker.

Members of this year's graduating class will continue training at 49 hospitals and medical institutions in 25 states.
