Newswise — Six student businesses in the areas of energy, recycling, health and sleep aids, and custom diamonds — selected from a field of more than 200 business plans — will participate in the final round of the 2007 Babson College Business Plan Competitions as part of Babson's Founder's Day celebration on April 19th.

The competitions award nearly $100,000 in cash prizes and services in kind. Babson founded the very first college business plan competition in 1984.

The competition finalists are:

Feed Resource Recovery — uses a proven technology to generate organic fertilizer and clean energy from food waste, mirroring nature's regenerative cycles. The Resource Recovery Model reduces clients' operating costs and environmental impact, while strengthening their socially responsible brand image. www.feedresource.com

Full Ratchet By Paragon Lake (an MBA team) and Paragon Lake (undergrad team) — both plans represent Paragon Lake, a web based supplier of fine custom jewelry, combining real industry experience with technological innovation. Mass Probiotics LLC — is launching the first non-dairy probiotic beverage, called phd, for 'probiotic health drink,' using a unique and patented delivery system of probiotic supplements. Another goal is to educate consumers on the general health benefits of probiotics.

A Better Night's Sleep — tests and treats sleep disorders, especially sleep apnea, by monitoring a client's abnormal sleeping patterns. When diagnosed with sleep apnea, they are fit with a breathing machine to wear at night to maintain normal breathing.

U.S. Tire Recyclers — collects, processes, and creates products from used automobile tires. These tires are used as a valuable economic resource for several applications around the world including agriculture and civil engineering.
