Social Science Experts on Hate Crime

Washington, DC -- As a public service, the American Sociological Association (ASA) is providing a list of social science experts on hate crime in light of concerns about such events resulting from the tragedy at the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Over the years, the ASA has sought to disseminate knowledge on hate crime. In 2000, the Association published Hate Crime in America: What Do We Know? by Abby Ferber, Ryken Grattet, and Valerie Jenness (Washington, DC: American Sociological Association, 2000), based on a Congressional seminar sponsored by the ASA. As part of the ASA's Rose Series in Sociology, the Association recently released a new book entitled Making Hate a Crime: From Social Movement Concept to Law Enforcement Practice by Valerie Jenness and Ryken Grattet (New York: Russell Sage Foundation, 2001).

Social science experts on hate crime are listed below: For other information, please contact the ASA Public Information Office.
