Newswise — Babson College has named Stephen Spinelli, Jr., Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship and Global Management, expanding his role as Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship to include leadership of Babson's Global Management Programs.

Spinelli is a recognized leader in defining the field of entrepreneurship. Prior to his career in academia, he co-founded Jiffy Lube International and subsequently founded and served as chairman and CEO of American Oil Corporation.

In his role as Vice Provost at Babson, Spinelli is responsible for developing entrepreneurship initiatives within the College and for extending Babson's entrepreneurial brand worldwide. An associate professor, Spinelli holds the Paul T. Babson Chair in Entrepreneurship. In his new role, Spinelli also will oversee the programs of Babson's William F. Glavin Center for Global Entrepreneurial Leadership as well as those of the Arthur M. Blank Center.

"The goal of the alliance between Babson's entrepreneurship and global management centers will be to capitalize on their independent initiatives as well as the synergies developing from closer collaborations between the two," said Babson Provost Michael Fetters.

The Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship is the hub for entrepreneurial activity at Babson. Its mission is to lead the global advancement of entrepreneurship education and practice through the development of teaching, research, and outreach initiatives that inspire entrepreneurial thinking and cultivate entrepreneurial leadership in all organizations and society.

The William F. Glavin Center for Global Entrepreneurial Leadership provides a platform for strengthening Babson's worldwide management interests and enhancing the international study required of all its students. It leads Babson's international initiatives to the advancement of global management education, through its regional institutes, Asia Institute, Europe Institute, and the Institute for Latin American Business.

Spinelli has researched, written, and lectured extensively on various aspects of entrepreneurship. His work has appeared in journals such as Journal of Business Venturing and Frontiers of Entrepreneurship. Spinelli has also been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Boston Globe, Entrepreneur, and Inc., among others. He has authored numerous business cases and is the coauthor of: New Venture Creation for the 21st Century; Franchising: Pathway to Wealth Creation; Business Plans for the 21st Century; and How to Raise Capital.

Spinelli earned a B.A. in economics from McDaniel College; M.B.A. from Babson College; and Ph.D. from Imperial College, London.
