Professor Mockaitis is an historian who studies terrorism, insurgency, international security and military history. He also team-teaches counterterrorism courses for the U.S. government at venues around the world. A frequent media commentator, Mockaitis is a Huffington Post contributor who regularly appears on WGN TV and other Chicago television and radio programs.
Mockaitis earned a doctorate and master’s degree in modern British and Irish history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; and a bachelor’s degree in European history from Allegheny College, Meadville, Pennsylvania. He has written numerous books and articles on terrorism, insurgency, peace operations and military history, including “The ‘New’ Terrorism: Myths and Reality,” “Iraq and the Challenge of Counterinsurgency” and “Osama Bin Laden: A Biography.” He is an editor of “Small Wars and Insurgencies” and “The Iraq War Encyclopedia.”
