Newswise — The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) has elected Susan Wirt, BSN RN CCM CLCP CRRN, as President of the association for the 2011-2012 year. Wirt took office at the ARN 37th Annual Educational Conference in Las Vegas held this past November. Wirt has been a long-standing and active member in ARN for more than 25 years, serving as a Director-at-Large for two terms and has played key roles in the development of two ARN position statements, The Rehabilitation Nurse as Case Manager, Rehabilitation of People with Cancer Position Statement. Wirt was awarded ARN’s prestigious Case Manager of the Year Award for 2009/2010 and recognized for advancement of the case manager’s role within the rehabilitation field.

For 17 years, Wirt has been principal in the primary case manager/life care planner company, Wirt & Associates, LLC. Wirt is a board Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse, Certified Rehabilitation Provider, (CRP), Certified Case Manager (CCM), Certified Life Care Planner (CLCP), Certified Nurse Life Care Planner (CNLCP) . She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from West Haven University, Daisy M. Granahan School of Nursing, Cypress, CA and an Association of Applied Science in Nursing from Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA. Wirt is currently pursuing her master’s of science in Nursing/Clinical Education from Jefferson College of Health Sciences, Roanoke, VA.

ARN advances an approach to care that promotes maximum independence for people living with illness or disability. “We have the opportunity to promote this vision through new and evolving interprofessional partnerships with others in healthcare and through our public policy. Addressing the complexity of current questions and issues in rehabilitation nursing requires the contributions of many.
