Newswise — HOUSTON -- The Methodist Hospital in Houston is one of three academic medical centers in the country to win a top patient satisfaction award from Press Ganey, a national consulting firm focused on improving health care performance.

“Extraordinary patient care continues to be a top priority at Methodist," said Peggy Creany, director of service quality for The Methodist Hospital. "We focus on providing the highest quality health care, with a personalized service approach. Our values-driven culture is the foundation for all our interactions with patients, guests and each other."

Press Ganey awarded Methodist the Patient Voice Award for academic medical centers, which recognizes a medical institution that has achieved high patient satisfaction as demonstrated by its performance and evaluation ratings. This year Press Ganey considered 92 institutions and Methodist was one of three chosen, along with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and UT Southwestern University Hospital - Zale Lipshy in Dallas.

Award winners are determined by a national standardized survey called the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS. The survey gauges patients’ perceptions of their hospital experiences. Until HCAHPS, there was no national standard for collecting and publicly reporting information about patient experience that provided comparisons with hospitals locally, regionally and nationally.

“Through the dedication and commitment of our employees and physicians, Methodist continues to set itself apart as a leading academic medical center for care and for patient satisfaction," Creany said. "We are privileged and honored to accept this award on behalf of our employees and physicians."
