Newswise — September 10, 2012 – Neptune, NJ – Jersey Shore University Medical Center will host its annual Community Day and 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event will be held at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, located at 1945 Route 33, in Neptune.

The day kicks off with a timed 5K Run/Walk starting at Jersey Shore and continuing through Neptune. The race offers great prizes for competitive athletes - the top male and female winners from different age categories will win cash prizes. Registration and check-in for the 5K run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. at the main entrance to the hospital. Registration is $25 and can be accessed at www.JerseyShoreUniversityMedicalCenter.com/5krace. The first 200 registrants will receive a long sleeved t-shirt.

Additionally, there will be free kid’s races for children between the ages of 3 and 12 starting at 11:00 a.m. Registration can be obtained on the day of the event and all participants will receive medals. Following the races there will be an awards ceremony, a children’s health fair, along with games, an inflatable play area, tattoos, trackless train rides, food by Branches Catering, a NICU reunion, music and more! Doctor Bernard and Hopscotch will also be making special appearances throughout the day. Health information and free screenings will be available including blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, stroke, and bone density.

Jersey Shore’s 5K is the second of three races that are part of the Meridian Health Heart and Sole Cup. Cash prizes are awarded at all three races. The final race of the Heart and Sole Cup will be Bayshore Community Hospital’s 5K in October.
