University of Redlands Vice President for Academic Affairs Philip A. Glotzbach will assume the presidency of Skidmore College in late July. Glotzbach joined the university in 1992 as dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, and in 1997 he was named vice president for Academic Affairs.

As vice president for Academic Affairs, Glotzbach served as liaison to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees and was responsible for the academic and academic support components of the university's operating budget. He served as the W.A.S.C. accreditation liaison officer and led the university's successful reaccredidation effort. In addition, he helped to develop and implement a new faculty salary system, led the revision of the Faculty Handbook, led the restructuring of academic units from two colleges to one college and two professional schools, and played a significant role in articulation of Redlands' institutional mission as a liberal arts and sciences university.

Active in national academic organizations, Glotzbach is a member and past chair of the executive board of the American Conference of Academic Deans. He also is a member of the American Association of University Professors and an ex officio member of the board of the Association of American Colleges and Universities.

About Glotzbach, University President James R. Appleton states, "In addition to administrative accomplishments, Phil did not stray from his love of philosophy. He continued to advocate teaching and liberal education -- the heart of the mission of the University of Redlands. Phil consistently championed the university as an academic community of discourse -- a community engaged in continuing intellectual conversation both about the external world and about itself.

While we will miss Phil as a colleague at Redlands, we wish him all the best as he embarks on this new phase of his career."

Skidmore College, located in Saratoga Springs, New York, is a selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college currently enrolling 2,200 students.
