Newswise — CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — The University of Virginia Darden School of Business announced that Darden Professor Frank Warnock was appointed to the James C. Wheat Jr. Professorship in Business Administration. He previously held the Paul M. Hammaker Professorship.
Warnock is an expert on international capital flows, international portfolio allocation and financial sector development. His research has appeared in a number of journals, including the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Housing Economics and Financial Analysts Journal.
This past summer, he began a term on the editorial board of Journal of International Money and Finance.
Warnock has won Darden’s Wachovia Award for Research Excellence for Significant Publication in a Peer-Reviewed, Discipline-Based Journal and Significant Publication Aimed Directly at the Practicing Manager. He co-founded the Darden junior faculty brown bag seminar series that allows for junior faculty to share their research interests with and receive feedback from other faculty members. Warnock also serves as a reviewer for the School’s Appointments Committee.
Noted for his teaching, Warnock is a member of the Global Economies and Markets (GEM) area. He developed and delivers GEM's First Year core elective "Global Financial Markets" and the Second Year elective "Advanced Global Financial Markets." He also co-created and co-teaches the yearlong practicum "Markets for Human Hope."
Warnock launched his career as a commodity-trading adviser on Wall Street. He honed his knowledge in international capital flows at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System as a senior economist in the international finance division. He also taught at Georgetown University and spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi's Thyolo District. He joined Darden in 2004.
The James C. Wheat Jr. Professorship of Business Administration honors James C. Wheat Jr., who served as an active sponsors trustee of the School from 1969 to 1978. Mr. Wheat was founding chair of Wheat, First Securities Inc., of Richmond. This professorship has no term length.
Professor Emeritus Brandt R. Allen served as the previous chair holder.
