To help alleviate these effects, all new submissions (from June 30th 2016) to ‘PeerJ’ or ‘PeerJ Computer Science’ with a UK author will qualify for partial APC relief (a $100 discount off of the normal $695 APC price). To mitigate the potential loss of EU and international collaborations, this relief also applies to any non-UK collaborators with at least one UK author. PeerJ believes that everyone benefits with more international science collaboration, not less.
Jason Hoyt, PeerJ Co-Founder and CEO said: “While it may seem odd to single out the UK in this instance, we also recognize the impact that the EU referendum has had across the EU and globally. It isn’t just the UK that is affected in this crisis, and it isn’t just an economic problem. The rise in xenophobia post-Brexit is a major concern, and so anything that can be done to encourage international collaboration in these times should be tried.”
Pete Binfield, PeerJ Co-Founder and Publisher said: “I am a UK citizen who has lived and worked for several years in the EU, and I have benefited enormously from that experience. I sincerely hope that the effects of Brexit will be limited, but in this period of uncertainty we are happy to provide this relief.”
This program will continue until further notice. To claim the relief, authors should simply inform staff in the notes field of the PeerJ submission form.
