Newswise — Students displaced by Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing flooding can apply to the College of the University of Chicago, the Law School, the Graduate School of Business, and the Divisions of the Humanities and Social Sciences for the forthcoming Fall Quarter, University officials said.
The University, the Business School, and the Divisions of the Humanities and Social Sciences will accept a limited number of students for the Fall Quarter, while the Law School plans to accept between five and 15 students uprooted by Katrina, which officials now fear took thousands of lives and left homeless tens of thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi and the surrounding area.
Undergraduate students who attended college in areas affected by the natural disaster should send an application, which can be accessed at http://phoenix.uchicago.edu/sal, by Monday, Sept. 12. The application fee will be waived and decisions about admissions are expected by Friday, Sept. 16. Call (773) 702-8650 for more information.
Law School applicants should send relevant material, including a resume, grades or comments explaining their situation to Ann Perry, Dean of Students, at [email protected] by Thursday, Sept. 8.
The Divisions of Humanities and Social Sciences will attempt to accommodate master's and doctoral degree-seeking students. Students seeking to apply for emergency visitor status should send relevant material, including a CV and a statement describing their academic situation to Thomas Thuerer, Dean of Students in the Division of the Humanities at [email protected] or by calling (773) 795-3696. For programs in the Social Sciences, send material to Lois Stein, Dean of Students in the Division of the Social Sciences at [email protected] or by calling (773) 702-8414. No application fee is required. Materials should be submitted by e-mail by Tuesday, Sept. 13. Decisions about admissions will be communicated by Friday, Sept. 16.
