Newswise — Washington, DC—Two of the Endocrine Society’s consumer health education websites earned top honors in the Summer/Fall 2014 Web Health Awards(SM) Competition, the Society announced today.
The Menopause MapTM won the Gold Award in the competition’s microsite category. The interactive tool helps women learn about menopause and start important conversations with their health care providers and peers.
Hormone.org – the digital home of the Society’s patient education arm, the Hormone Health Network – received the Merit Award for a patient education portal website. The site provides a variety of free resources for people who have diabetes, obesity, thyroid conditions, reproductive health disorders and other endocrine conditions. The Hormone Health Network developed both of the winning sites.
“We were delighted the Hormone Health Network’s valuable consumer resources were selected as winners in the 2014 Web Health Awards competition,” said Susan Kirk, MD, an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, and a member of the Hormone Health Network’s advisory committee. “The award validates the Network’s important work providing the latest information on treatment advances and scientific findings to consumers in an understandable format.”
As the nation’s endocrine patient education resource, the Hormone Health Network is committed to helping patients have more informed discussions with their health care providers about hormone health, disease and treatment. The Network’s goal is to positively impact the health and well-being of patients by moving them from educated to engaged, from informed to active partners in their health care. The Network offers health care providers accurate, time-saving tools and gives patients the trusted information they need to better understand their conditions and treatment options.
The Web Health Awards(SM) recognize the nation’s best digital health resources. The competition is held twice a year. The winners were chosen from nearly 400 entries by a panel of distinguished experts in digital health media.
The Web Health Awards(SM) program is organized by the Health Information Resource Center(SM) (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for professionals who work in consumer health fields. Other well-known HIRC programs include the annual National Health Information Awards(SM), (healthawards.com) which annually recognizes the nation’s best consumer health programs and materials (for non-digital resources), and two national “Fitness Day” events: The annual National Women’s Health & Fitness Day® (fitnessday.com/women) and the annual Family Health & Fitness Day USA® (fitnessday.com/family).
