Francis Pagani, M.D., Ph.D., co-author on MOMENTUM 3 trial of LVAD (left ventricular assist device) therapy/ cardiac surgeon at Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan) comments on importance of this late-breaking clinical trial at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions.
"The MOMENTUM 3 trial represents the largest study ever performed evaluating an implantable left ventricular assist device. The results from the MOMENTUM 3 demonstrate a significant reduction in important adverse events such as pump thrombosis, stroke and major bleeding for the HeartMate 3 compared to the HeartMate II. The overall improvement in outcomes obtained with the HeartMate 3 represents a major advance in the field of LVAD therapy and is important in achieving greater benefit for our patients."
