Ninety-nine percent of Babson College’s most recent undergraduate alumni are employed or continuing their education, according to statistics from the Class of 2018 six months after graduation*.
Salaries are on the rise, too. The average starting salary for Babson’s Class of 2018 was $57,580.
Both data points surpass national averages. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) “First Destination” survey,** 81.2 percent of the Class of 2017 was employed or attending graduate school after graduation. The average starting salary for business school graduates was $50,004, according to the NACE Fall 2018 Salary Survey.
That salary potential continues well beyond six months after graduation. In Massachusetts, a state with well over 100 colleges and universities, Babson is ranked No. 3 for undergraduate salary potential according to the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard. Babson graduates boast a robust median alumni salary of $96,100 within 10 years of graduation.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. What lies beneath the impressive numbers is a host of professional development programs, industry partnerships, and career readiness initiatives that prepare Babson students for professional success and lifelong learning and fulfillment.
Do What You Love, Love What You Do
“Our vision is to empower students from day one,” said Donna Sosnowski, director of Babson’s Hoffman Family Undergraduate Center for Career Development (CCD). “Through an array of experiential opportunities, our students are emboldened to explore career options through practical experiences, encouraging intellectual curiosity and continuous learning.”
Undergraduate career development at Babson is experienced as a continual process of self-discovery. From exploring career possibilities, discovering a career passion, connecting passion to opportunity, and finally making it happen, Babson’s CCD team works with students every step of the way, starting their first day on campus.
“From a student’s first days to final days at Babson, our Center for Career Development provides an immersive experience for discovering one’s passions and then positioning our students for success in the pursuit of them. They achieve this through personal and powerful partnerships with our faculty, industry thought leaders, and our employers,” said Ian Lapp, dean of Babson’s Undergraduate School. “It is fitting that we release our extraordinary career outcomes in the heart of admissions season. It demonstrates Babson’s unique ability to recognize potential and through a transformational learning experience create talented graduates that are in demand from all sectors.”
Among CCD’s extensive career readiness initiatives are immersive, experiential learning opportunities. Eighty-nine percent of the Class of 2018 completed an internship while at Babson, even though it’s not an academic requirement. The Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) program, which doubled in size last year, offers students opportunities to gain practical industry experience while working with professionals in the business community. Past MCFE company partners have included Puma, Boston Red Sox, Staples, Talbots, and Clarkston Consulting. Externships allow first-year students and sophomores to shadow professionals in action and learn more about a particular industry or function. Through company treks, students visit industry partners in Greater Boston and New York City to see and learn about various industries, company cultures, and connect with alumni.
Employer partnerships and sponsorships are a signature of CCD. It works extensively to bring employers to Babson’s campus to recruit talent, share industry insight, and serve as thought leaders to help continually improve the team’s approach to career preparedness.
International career programming for students has recently expanded, thanks to partnerships with Babson’s Glavin Office of Multicultural & International Education, the College’s Global Advisory Board, parents, and alumni. These partnerships have led to facilitation and creation of global externship and internship opportunities, and panels and workshops for student job search strategies in the United States and abroad.
“Our Career Outcomes data depicts the landing stats for the Class of 2018 as well as the change in talent needed to support today’s businesses,” said Sosnowski. “As Babson enters our second century, our students will enter a reconfigured work environment disrupted by intelligent technology. Our unique pedagogy provides the business acumen combined with the practical application that readies Babson students with the technical, social, emotional, and professional competencies necessary to be successful in the future work environments.”
