Newswise — The AIUM welcomes Steven R. Goldstein, MD, as its 30th president. Dr Goldstein brings his experience and passion in medical ultrasound to this organization, offering a wealth of knowledge and innovative ideas to aid in the advancement of the safe and effective use of this modality.
Dr Goldstein has been a member of the AIUM since 1981 and has been intricately involved in numerous committees in addition to his service on the AIUM Executive Committee and Board of Governors. He has played an integral role in the development of the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine’s Sound Judgment Series, which was developed to serve as an educational tool for students, as well as to facilitate the integration of ultrasound into clinical practice. Dr Goldstein works actively and diligently for the advancement of medical ultrasound, having published over 58 articles, 31 reviews, books, and book chapters, 9 abstracts, and 13 other publications. His primary area of interest in ultrasound includes gynecologic ultrasound, ultrasound in menopause, early pregnancy and its failure, transvaginal ultrasound, and saline infusion sonohysterography.
Dr Goldstein is currently director of gynecologic ultrasound and professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the New York University School of Medicine and codirector of bone densitometry. He received his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine, continued his postdoctoral training at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and finished his training in obstetrics and gynecology at New York University/Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, New York.
“I am honored to lead this society at such a pivotal time as now relative to the explosion of the use of medical ultrasound in so many emerging arenas,” said Dr Goldstein. “My goal is to help this society fulfill the mission that any patient who has an ultrasound transducer applied to or in their body deserves to have it done by someone who is competent and utilizing appropriate equipment adequately calibrated and maintained. I believe the AIUM is exquisitely positioned to make this a reality.”
The AIUM looks forward to the benefit of Dr Goldstein's leadership as we continue to advance the goals and mission of our organization.
