Newswise — IOP Publishing is pleased to announce the online publication of "An on-chip magnetic bead separator for biocell sorting" in the widely respected Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering. Recently, there has been a large demand for the development of lab-on-a-chip using microfabrication technologies.
This paper illustrates the first integrated magnetic bead separator using an on-chip magnetic interconnection technology to separate the actuating microinductors and the microfluidic channel on the opposite sides of the chip. This microfabricated magnetic bead separator can be used to quantitatively count the amount of the separated magnetic beads in the fluidic channel. Therefore, it can envisage the full development of a lab-on-a-chip, which has more sensitive, rapid and functional biochemical detection systems with low cost.
The article appears in the current online edition and is available at the following link: http://www.iop.org/EJ/abstract/-ffissn=0960-1317/-ff30=all/0960-1317/16/12/035. The article is also featured in the December 2006 print version of Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering.
