Newswise — Anna Maria College has done it again. As a small, private college, it has demonstrated its ability to provide students with services usually found at larger institutions with the launch of its new Student Success Center. While most small and mid-sized colleges offer students a variety of services through either a campus life experience or the academic arm of the institution, AMC has changed this paradigm by providing students with a more robust and efficient model.
The Student Success Center at AMC brings a variety of elements such as academic advising, a learning center, counseling and health services, and career preparation together so that staff and faculty can provide students more efficient and coordinated services. “It is a one stop shopping place for students,” explains Andrew O. Klein, Vice President for Student Success. “By integrating a number of campus life and academic services under one umbrella, the College will be able to offer students a more integrated approach to ensuring their success.”
Incorporated into the Student Success Center is the College’s new Academic Advising Center, led by Adam Duggan. Through this advising component of the Student Success Center, both professional and faculty advisers work with students to develop appropriate academic plans based on student academic and career goals. Adam also oversees the College’s First-Year Experience program geared toward assisting students with their transition to college life. Anna Maria College’s Learning Center has also been able to expand under this new model with a larger computer lab and more tutors to help students be the best they can be in and out of the classroom.
Dean Klein shares how the Student Success Center and all its components are in keeping with elements of the proposed Obama Plan. “The Student Success Center emphasizes student outcomes, retention, and academics for life and successful employment,” shares Dean Klein. “The services we provide at the Student Success Center are not just for freshmen. All of our students will be able to participate in this new and exciting endeavor,” he adds.
