Marc Rosenblum, MD, has been named Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). An internationally recognized neuropathologist, Dr. Rosenblum has been with Sloan-Kettering since 1983 and has been the Acting Chairman of the department since 1999.

"After an exhaustive search for the ideal candidate, it became apparent that Marc Rosenblum was the individual best-suited to lead the department in meeting the most important challenges we currently face," said Robert Wittes, MD, Physician-in-Chief of MSKCC.

Dr. Rosenblum will focus on recruiting expert diagnostic pathologists to the department, expanding its collaborative efforts with the Center's clinical research groups, and exploring novel molecular diagnostic techniques so that they are available on a centralized basis whenever appropriate.

An accomplished pathologist, Dr. Rosenblum's scholarly publications reflect a broad interest and expertise in neuropathology. His research has focused on the diagnosis and classification of tumors affecting the brain and spinal cord. His other areas of expertise include the neurologic manifestations of HIV-1 infection, as well as infectious and other complications of cancer and its treatment.

A graduate of Yale University and the University of Miami School of Medicine, Dr. Rosenblum trained in pathology at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Following fellowships at MSKCC in surgical and autopsy pathology, cytopathology, and neuropathology, he was appointed to the full-time staff in 1986. He has been Chief of the Center's Neuropathology and Autopsy Service since 1991.

"A strong cancer center relies on expert pathology for all its clinical operations. Marc's direction will ensure the department's continued clinical distinction while enhancing its capabilities in molecular cancer pathology," said Dr. Wittes.
